4-Season Inflatable Sleeping Pad | R-Value 8.5 | Horizon X

I purchased the Windquester Horizon X Sleep pad having seen it come across my social feed as an R8.5 rated at a very very reasonable price, especially for Australia where our distance from the rest of the world usually includes a shipping and exchange rate premium. I was impressed that delivery was only a few days as my expectation was weeks.
It was only a few weeks after that I used the pad on a 270km thru hike of the Great North Walk (Sydney to Newcastle, Australia). The pad inflation was quick and easy utilising its inflation bag which is included with the pad. Even though the inflation bag would be considered on the larger side for ultralight hikers, I ditched the sleeping bag stuff sack and used the inflation bag as a dry stuff sack for my sleeping bag and clothes which offset some of the weight gain, yay! The valve system as simplistic as it is, performed well keeping the pad inflated whilst in use and allowing its deflation rapidly, allowing for quick pack-up every morning. I found the rectangular shape much easier to fold and roll up than mummy pads I have used previously. The valve allowed the expelling of almost all the air which allowed the pad to be stored in its draw bag easily. Over several days I slept on a variety of surfaces, compacted sand, dirt and wet grass where I found the pad performed well and supplied a very comfortable slumber.
Even though Australia has a warm climate during this time of year I could not feel any heat sinking into the ground as I slept. Generally, pads which use a similar construction sound crinkly and noisy, however the Horizon X seemed distinctly quieter which made for less disturbed sleep.
The pads thickness and robustness is very good as it did not bottom-out, deflect or pop the valve as I sat on the edge within my tent while I prepared meals, attended to foot care etc.
Overall, the Horizon X Sleeping pad was a great purchase at a reasonable price point and I look forward to using it on many more overnight adventures, perhaps even to use it on a snow (Yes Australia does get snow) camping expedition in the future.

Ordered this on Wed and it showed up by Friday—lightning fast shipping. Took the Horizon X out for some snow campng over the weekend and the warmth was legit. My back never got cold once. At 9cm thick, it’s super supportive and basically felt like a real bed instead of frozen ground. WindQuester is a new brand to me but I’m impressed. Definitly thinking about picking up one of their tents next.

OK, so preliminary review. Haven't field tested it but got the pad, weight checks out. Nice inflation bag with it, bonus! Inflated it to see if it held air. Tested it out for comfort. Took a nap. I liked the coverage, good width and length. I am a minimalist to a certain extent and most pads I have or used tend to be on the narrow mummy shape style. Definitely felt more comfortable on the WindQuester. Bonus! Left the pad set up for 4 days, put weighted bags on the pad. Left them on throughput each day, took off for a few hours then back on for the night. Over 4 days, they were weighted for 20 hours each day. Also tested against 2 other pads (R4.5 rated) to see if there was a difference in warmth in a very cold bedroom with a light down quilt on me. Hard to tell but the Wind did seem warmer. Maybe partly due to greater coverage. That was all I could do for winter testing as I have no time to get out and test overnight right now. Plus its been a warm winter here in BC. Pleased that the pad lost little to no air over the course of the 4 day testing period. I've had other pads that dont even hold air right out of the box. Pad folded up after deflation pretty well, the square shape makes it easier to keep uniform than a mummy shape. Pretty easy to get back in the stuff sack. That is something for sure. I gave it a 5 star rating as it has done everything it stated. Coldness test still to come so will have to see how that rating holds up. R8.5 is a high value so not holding out hope it will be that warm but will see. That is my rating to date. Seems like a high quality product!

I was drawn to this product because it was more affordable than similar options. I haven’t taken it out into the field yet, but I left it inflated at home for about 24 hours and didn’t notice any air leakage. The packed size is compact and the weight is reasonable, which I’m happy with.

I do wish the mat were slightly wider. It would also be more convenient if the stuff sack had a small handle or loop at the end to make it easier to pull the mat out. I hope these details can be improved in future upgrades.

I’m also interested in trying the chair attachment, but there aren’t many field reviews available yet, which makes me a bit hesitant.

Camped at high elevation and it kept me warm even when temps dropped hard overnight — no crinkly noise either, super quiet compared to my old pad. Packs up small enough I barely notice it in my bag. Worth every penny.
